You can't beat this d-pad or the ergonomics perfected for 2D video games. What are you waiting for, get one! The USB cable to plug it in is 11 ft long so having it wired and ready to go will never be a problem

The controller works great with retro games Love it

Growing up with a Saga instead of a SNES this controller always held a special place in my heart, This was nothing but an impulse buy but I am so glad I did. I had the original when I was a kid and I'm gettng back into retro gaming and this is perfect. Buttons presses are smooth and responsive, D-Pad is great, price can't be beat and it's super easy to use on emulators and even Steam. Just an FYI, if you are having trouble with steam, I had to click the little controler icon and enable steam input. No idea why but it works for me. 100% recommend and will be buying a second for 2 player fun.

Just plug in and play. It feels like an official, premium-grade controller, and the D-pad in particular stands out as exceptional.I set up the buttons to mirror an Xbox controller layout as closely as possible. Here's how I mapped them (Genesis button → Xbox button):Bottom row: A → B, B → X, C → ATop row: X → Left Bumper, Y → Y, Z → Right BumperFor the Mode button, I assigned it as the Select button.It took me a while to land on this layout, but it's the most comfortable setup I've found. No regrets on this purchase. 👍

I never purchased the original six-button controllers for the Genesis back in the day, so while I can't comment on how exact it is to the original, it works well. It feels great, games are responsive, and it works great with the Genesis Mini and a PC.But I came across one issue that turns out to be a design oversight, and a bit of a major one if you ask me. Apparently, for Steam and Switch compatibility, they decided to implement a unique macro/command that would bring up the Home or Guide screens, which is initiated whenever you press A and Start together. However, this creates a conflict with any games that require you to press both buttons, such as the cheat codes for Sonic 1 and 2, which normally require you to press A+Start to access the level select menu after putting in a code. Since pressing A+Start initiates a separate command that these games won't recognize, they won't recognize any input on your end, preventing you from accessing the Level Select codes in those games and any others that use those to buttons together. I was able to pull it off once somehow with Sonic 1, but it was likely a fluke I haven't been able to replicate since.I had contacted Retro-bit regarding this and confirmed that it was a design choice and not the result of having a faulty controller. Interestingly enough, pressing X and Start as the same time on the Genesis Mini also brings up the menu, and since the Mode button already does that with a single button press, makes me wonder why the macro couldn't be assigned to Start+X instead. They also confirmed that this issue exists in all controllers with Switch compatibility, and since given that many of their upcoming Sega controllers will be Switch-compatible going forward, this will likely affect all of those as well. Playing the games on an emulator presents the same issue.Now of course, you could simply use the controller with the original 3-button ones that came with the Mini. But if you wanted to buy these for both the Mini and the PC like I did, hoping it would be the definitive Sega-branded Genesis/Mega Drive controller to use for both (and let's be real, that's the purpose of these), as much as I appreciate their efforts into making it identical to the originals as much as possible, and boy they absolutely nailed the look and feel of the controller, this one design oversight prevents it from being so.Any other games that don't use these buttons, it's great. But still, so close...

The USB cord that it is attached to is really thick, seems durable, and is really long. Seems good quality to me, but only time will tell. Having said that, I don't play video games all the time, so I'm hoping it lasts a while. It's a pretty nice controller, and so far I really like it.Part 2 - The A+Start issue:I saw one reviewer comment that A+Start does not work in games for him, due to the designer's deciding to make that button combination do a particular thing on the Nintendo Switch, and the Steam game hub. I thought that what he said might not apply to people who are just using Retroarch, not with Steam. I tried A+Start during the cheat entry for Sonic 1. It goes back to when I purchased the Super Retro-Cade console, mainly because it contained a few games I'd always wanted a licensed copy of for my collection. A budget emulator console with some flaws and limitations one of which is that it didn't work with a lot of popular controllers. So I took a gamble and got these. Comparing them to my actual vintage 6 button Sega Genesis controllers they are virtually indistinguishable (haven't taken them apart to compare the guts) other than the cord. They feel great in your hands, especially if you had nostalgia for the ergonomic Sega style controllers (far superior to anything Nintendo had at the time, yes, even the SNES). The only downside of using these with the Retro-cade is that they don't seem to respond to re-configuring of the buttons. Of course you can use them on your PC which is how most will use them, for emulation.Some have complained about the 'floating d-pad' of these controllers, but honestly it is the same as my vintage 6 button pads for Sega Genesis from the 1990s.I would personally always prefer to plug in my vintage controllers to a real vintage console (or retro console that uses cartridges and not emulation) on my crt tv, but when I am using the Retro-cade these I prefer to the ones that came with it (those hybrid sega/nintendo thingies). The lack of proper reconfiguration is a limitation of the console not the controller. The cord length is just right (many retro consoles get bashed on because they tend to be shorter than their North American counterparts, I guess because Japanese consoles tended to be smaller and had shorter cords I guess so you would be sitting closer to a smaller screen, that's my guess). I also was able to plug them into a USB multi-port hub (self powered) and they still worked.

pleasantly surprised on the quality... I like the feel of the buttons would use a slightly harder membrane for the D-pad though.I like it so much I purchased a second one. Sadly the second one had a flimsy start button didn’t have tactile feedback like the first one so I returned it. Also had the black one eight button version, Which was much lower quality than the six button blue version.Would recommend.... The 6 Button Blue Version.
