Bullet: An Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Novel

I believe this is the third time I've read this book. Simply I just miss Anita and her family, while I wait for the big Wedding. If and when that happens. Still waiting Laurell. We need a new Anita book no matter where the story takes us. Please ...

Yeah, yeah, this one borders on too much sex for the sake of sex, but- Bullet has to be one of my favorite of the Anita Blake series- this seems to be a pivotal story that explains a lot of what has been building in prior books. I have all the Blake books in paperback, and I recently got the CD at the local library just for fun- The narrator is really good and the narration clarified some of the plotline for me (a lot like reading a book for the second or third time might do). I, like a lot of other fans, miss the focus on being a necromancer, but this book was packed full of information and builds the plot for the next couple of books (yeah, I've read them too, more than once). I don't care much for the indiscriminate sex in this installment, but Hamilton is a great writer, and the sex, while getting to be too much a focal point, is well written and the men are Hot... so I just enjoy the sex, violence and storyline and keep my fingers crossed that we will see more on the animation as the series continues.

I was worried about Bullet. Anita has changed quite a bit over the books and I wasn't sure how much more I could take. I also was worried this would be a glorified short story like "Micah" and "Flirt". I also love Richard but had had it with him and his whining. I also read the Sookie stackhouse (True Blood) books and the 10th one that just came out was absolutely horrible - no plot, no character development, no excitement. I was praying that this Anita Blake book would not disappoint. I was very pleasantly surprised. I know many people feel Anita is corrupted beyond repair but I have to say that I have accepted her life and embraced it. I found the plot well thought out and exciting - nothing drags, however it does feel like the prelude to the next book. The fight with the Council/Mommie Dearest never came but all the prep work was done. I expect this will come to fruition in the next book. Laurell, please don't wait too long. Thank you, thank you for pulling Richard together - I knew he had it in him - if you hadn't fixed him we would be begging for him to be put out of his misery. I have to admit that i still can not take Nathaniel - I'm with Haven and Richard - what does she see in him? And that ankle length hair - just creepy! The book is definitely worth buying and reading. Laurell can tell a story and come up with well drawn characters. And really, once you fall in love with these characters how can you not read it? Bravo and keep 'em coming!

I've read a few of the negative reviews and am at a total loss where these are coming from. It isn't like LKH has suddenly surprised everyone with Anita's abilities and the ardeur. It has been a progression and has been stated how many powers Anita is gaining along with the way the ardeur works so she has to have so many men in her life. I have liked all of the books, including Flirt, which I thought was a very nicely done novelette. This book finally has Richard and Anita growing up and realizing they have been childish and unrealistic in what they want from the people around them. They are now embracing what needs to be done and doing it. Asher has been wanting Jean Claude for so long it was a relief to finally have that happen. It was also nice that he was punished before he was rewarded because he had been a very bad boy. JC can now work toward protecting everyone and have the power supporting him that he has needed for a long time. While I am an avid fan I will say that I have had issues with some of the books. Not the same issues some folks have. Mine have been from an editing stand point. An example is I loved the storyline in Harlequin. Hated the editing. Some of the characters names were incorrect, some of the things said about them or by the characters were wrong, and it bothered me these small things were not corrected. However, I will continue reading the books and enjoying them. One thing I had an issue with while reading some of these reviews is the fact that people think they can tell an author how to write their books and where to take the storyline. The author has complete autonomous power to write the story they want to write and tell it the way they want to tell it. No one has the right to dictate how that is going to be done except the author. Where do these people get off thinking that because they put something on a blog they will be obeyed? If you don't like the books then stop reading them. If you think you have a better idea write your own book. I am looking forward to the next Anita Blake book. And by the way, if you don't like the sex in these, don't bother to read her Merry Gentry books. Personally, I love both series and can hardly wait for the next in each of them.

Anita's power escalates dramatically, leading to a confrontation with the tigers and ultimately resulting in a decisive showdown with Haven, during which she suffers the loss of one of her associates..

Anita and crew are dealing with comparatively mundane stuff, then, some chapters in the war they worked so hard to prevent blows up around them. What follows is Jean-Claude and his people running frantically from one disaster to another. Assassins and magical attacks being bad yes, but not as deadly as betrays from within. I love Anita, Jean-Claude and Richard having to make an ugly, world changing choice, with no bloodless options left. It's all been building up to this since Burn Offerings if not longer. Can Anita needs the Monster everyone needs her to be?

I love this series! I will never get tired of reading it! Another great history with lots of actions! Thank you Hamilton!

Hamilton looses herself in endless dialogues, monologues and excursions that fill sides and sides, while nothing really happens. Such, in the end the book consists of only a handful of different scenes, and it is over before the story is half told. What saves this book somehow are the refreshingly new sex scenes. If I wouldn't love the characters so much, I'd stop reading this series now.
