Breaking Bad: The Complete Series Box Set [Blu-ray] (Package may vary)

Just finished up the entire series...and I loved every second of it. No spoilers. But the show has high entertainment, and replay, value. I spent $119 on this (Amazon Deal of the Day), and I feel it was money well spent. At the current price of $136, it's still a good value. The picture quality was amazing, but it should be noted: from Season 4 on, the discs would sometimes refuse to load or take a long time loading. This has never happened with my BluRay player before, or with anything else since. Maybe every 1 out of 4 times loading, the disc would go THOK-A-THOCK-A-THOCK in the player & do nothing. Maybe that silly warning about using a current BluRay player comes into effect here? Anyway. Course of action: I ejected the disc (which took 45 seconds) and simply had it take the disc in again. Fixed it every time, and playback from that point on was flawless. The quality of the barrel & subsequent packing is simply fantastic. It is not only functional, but also a work of art. It's hard to describe the clear disks of plastic that are pictured surrounding the barrel, but here goes: They're multiple disks that hold the BluRays in each season. They all have bits & pieces of artwork on there that form a random, and yet meaningful, image from that season. Sometimes it's a theme; sometimes it's a side note. But it's really cool & it shows how much thought & care they put into the packaging. All the plastic discs that house the BluRays are held together by three small magnets on the edges...you know, I'm just going to have to upload a few pictures later. It's very, very well done. Especially with "special edition", "collector's edition" complete series sets, the quality tends to be....lackluster. For example, look at Dexter. The wooden box set is the higher rated of the two, but people constantly comment that it looks & feels "cheap", that when it arrived discs were all scattered around & out of order. And don't even get me started on the mannequin bust; that one was rated even worse, and with good reason. But as poorly as those are constructed, this one stands out in stark contrast. Whoever designed this appealing, functional, and solid packaging deserves a big, fat raise. If I must post criticisms, I'll post two: One, I could see the plastic hinges on the side opening of the barrel as a potential weak point. However, they did the best with the medium they were working with, and if I remember correctly the barrel was all nice & taped shut for shipping. It was packed so very well. Just keep it away from kids, who will inevitably destroy it. Two, those anti-piracy ads....seriously. I paid $119 to have advertised to my face, (every time you boot it up & go into a new episode) "This material is copyright protected by feduhral lawz, sooper seerious. Big, big fines, and we'll put you in JAIL. Don't steal this or we'll punish you." I don't care about your protection laws, and neither do thieves. They edit that cute little warning out when they steal. The only people being punished are paying customers who have their time wasted looking at warnings that don't apply to them! Knock. It. Off. Again, no spoilers, but the ending was prodigal. It very tastefully brought the series to an end, in a way that I'm sure satisfied most Breaking Bad fans. It's so wonderful to see such a talented crew treat their work with respect, end it with dignity, and exit the stage before they are asked, begged, to leave. The alternate ending, while funny, would have been a copout & I'm glad it was just that. An alternate. In summary, great series, very well done in both production & packing, no real complaints besides nitpicking...pictures of the barrel & its contents to come later. Seriously. With so many Breaking Bad fanatics I am shocked no one has done it sooner.

This collector's set is a MUST for every Breaking Bad fan! If you've seen the show and plan on re-watching, you should invest in this product. I've seen a lot of complaints about the price; I get it, $200 is a bit pricey, BUT considering what you get it is well worth it. First of all, most other retailers are selling the Blu-Ray collection for $300 but (as of 11/26/13) Amazon is knocking off a $100, and with next-day delivery I only paid about $208. Considering other Complete Series box sets such as LOST, The Sopranos, etc. $200 is the standard price, not that bad for what you get. If you're not a huge fan of the series but still enjoyed it, this is probably not for you. Re-watching the series via Netflix or individual DVD seasons - which you can get for around $20 each - is probably better. This is the type of product only avid fans can appreciate. For die-hard fans, this box set is more about the extra collectors items and the unique packaging than just owning the complete series; like I said before the individual seasons are much more cost efficient. If you just want the episodes and aren't too into extras then just stick with Netflix. The box set includes all 5 seasons (6 depending on how you count the last 8 episodes), along with a whole bunch of special features and behind-the-scenes awesomeness. Every season of the series has commentary, along with season-specific bonus features as well as a dedicated disc packed with more extras including interviews with the cast, writers, and directors, a 2 hour documentary about the making of the final 8 episodes that includes Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reading the script to the finale, Felina, for the very first time, and an alternate ending (I want spoil it here but if you have the internet and don't live under a rock then you've probably already seen it). The packaging itself is pretty cool; the series comes in a money barrel replica similar to the barrels Walter used to stash his money in season 5B. The top comes off just like a normal barrel and there you will find the Special Features disc, a memorabilia token the has the infamous Heisenberg sketch on one side and the Breaking Bad logo on the other with the words "Yo Soy el Peligro" (I Am the Danger) lining the outer edge, and a Los Pollos Hermanos apron. Since the apron had to be condensed into a tiny disc-shape to be put in the packaging it comes out extremely wrinkled - nothing a little ironing can't take care of, though. Then in the main casing, the lower part of the barrel opens up to reveal the season discs. Each season is stored in plastic transparent casings sporting icons from each season. Inside the door to the main case you will find an episode booklet outlining each season's episodes with brief synopses and a list of the season's bonus features. There is a note from series creator Vince Gilligan at the very beginning of the booklet thanking you for your support of his bank account. I hope this review helps in your decision. This collector's set is specifically for the collector, as Vince Gilligan explains in his letter. If you're a Breaking Bad addict, then this set is a must have - even if you've already bought the previous seasons individually. It is a great addition to your collection and will look great next to your Heisenberg bobble-head. Or if you're Holiday shopping and have a fan on your list, this is THE gift for them. Die-hard fan? What are you waiting for? BUY IT! Casual fan? Save your money, stick with Netflix and save yourself the buyer's remorse.

Breaking Bad was the iconic series about a high-school chemistry teacher named Walter White (played wonderfully by Bryan Cranston) who finds out he has terminal cancer and decides to start manufacturing meth with a former student named Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) so he can make enough money to set up his family for life. Throughout the course of the series, Walter transforms from a guy who is in over his head to a horrible character with almost no redeeming qualities who uses everyone around him. The series also stars Anna Gunn as Walter's wife, Skyler, Dean Norris as Walter's brother-in-law Hank, who is also a DEA agent who ends up looking for the mysterious new meth dealer, Betsy Brandt, as Walter's sister-in-law Marie, RJ Mitte as Walter Jr. Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo "Gus" Fring, a local drug kingpin with a cover as a business owner, Bob Odenkirk as the criminal lawyer, Saul Goodman, and Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut, an enforcer for Gus and private investigator for Saul. The last three also appear on the great spin-off series Better Call Saul. Where the set really shines is with the extras. There are hours of extras for each season including behind-the-scenes featurettes, commentary tracks on select episodes, episodes of "Inside Breaking Bad" the post-show wrap-up that aired after many of the episodes, music videos, gag reels, photo albums, deleted and extended scenes, character profiles, a hilarious alternate ending to the series, and more. So, if you love the show and you love watching the bonus material, there is a ton here for you. The series is widely regarded as one of the best shows of the 2010s. It was wonderfully written and very well acted, by everyone in the main cast and the guest cast. Cranston did a great job of transitioning Walter from a wimp to a monster over the course of the series, and Aaron Paul did a wonderful job playing Jessee as a guy who got in too deep with Walter and portraying Jesse's love-hate feelings toward Walter whom he saw as a father figure, yet knew only cared about himself and money. The series really boils down to the power of greed, and how it corrupts. Even though it has been off the air for nearly a decade, the show holds up very well and is definitely worth the investment. It had a lot fewer shows than many shows that stay on the air for five seasons get (just 62 total episodes), but it told a great story and if you are a fan of crime dramas, it is a must-watch.

A truly amazing series! Arguably the greatest drama series ever made. Breaking Bad portrays the evolution of a character named Walter White. Walt begins the series as a mild mannered chemist teaching science, but becomes, over time, a ruthless criminal mastermind known to the DEA as "Heisenberg" (the name of one of Walt's favorite physicists, and the name Walt chooses to go by for all of his nefarious activities). At each crossroads he reaches in his life, we see Walt take one more step across one more moral line he's previously drawn in the sand, one more moral barrier he's never before crossed, until, one day, there are no more lines, no more barriers left for him to cross. He has become a man completely devoid of any remaining moral limitations. With each new degree of power he achieves in the world of drug trafficking, we see Walt become more and more intoxicated by it, wanting ever more, never satisfied that it is finally enough. From humble beginnings as a powerless nobody pushed around by the forces of life, he comes to love finally being one of the ones who gets to do all the pushing. At first, he enters onto the path of darkness (manufacturing what he, at first, believes will be only a one time run of highly profitable methamphetamine) with seemingly noble and sympathetic intentions (if such a thing is possible concerning the manufacture of drugs), doing it for the family he loves, so that they'll not be left penniless under the weight of his crushing medical expenses. But, in time, Walt makes more than enough to pay for a dozen lifetime's worth of medical bills, yet continues on in his endeavor (at first grudgingly, without being given any free choice in the matter, but later voluntarily and even enthusiastically) having by then completely lost sight of why he started and who he's supposedly doing it all for. This incredible series is populated with some of the most deeply drawn characters we've ever seen portrayed in film or on television, and with some of the most memorable and frightening villains to threaten and challenge them along the multi-season story arc of this series. Breaking Bad is the best written, best acted dramatic TV series that I have ever seen, and Bryan Cranston and the rest of the cast, the writers and the crew unquestioningly deserve all of the Emmy awards they've received for their work in this unforgettable show. Be warned, though, this series is not for the faint of heart! It pulls no punches and isn't worried about leaving your nerves frazzled and worn down to the raw nubs. Once things get moving (and that takes awhile--as much as I love this show, it really did take some time to win me over), it will present viewers with some of the most pulse-pounding and intense moments ever shown on television. I often found myself literally out of breath from the tension at the end of many of the more riveting episodes. Think of the most intense moments of "The Sopranos", put them on massive steroids, and you might have some idea of what I'm getting at. There are moments in this series that rival the shock value of the "Red Wedding" in "Game of Thrones"--a number of such moments, in fact. And, unlike "The Sopranos", "Breaking Bad" ends with a final episode that will not disappoint even the most hard to please viewers! If you have the nerves for a series of such powerful intensity, Breaking Bad will be an unforgettable viewing experience, a television journey unlike any other that you've ever taken. Like the television equivalent of a powerful drug, once you become addicted to this superlative, one of a kind television series, you won't be satiated. You'll have no choice but to watch it all the way through to it's unforgettable conclusion. Then, believe it or not, you'll actually want to watch it again! To put it succinctly, Breaking Bad is as good as television gets!

When we got around to watching the series there was a lot we couldn’t watch because it went blank or snowy.

Wow, I thought this set would be nice, I really had no idea how nice!! Definitely in love with the show, didn't find it until after I had moved to Albuquerque and had already been going to several of the spots they used for filming. Once I did though I couldn't get enough of it fast enough. Enough about the show though, if your here you probably already love it! I waited for the whole Blu-Ray set to come out and of course I waited a bit too long and missed the first release of the Barrel Set. So, I decided to wait a bit and see what they might sell for used in a bit, but to my surprise they re-released them and Amazon had awesome pricing on it! The Barrel is definitely worth it, this is by far the best packaging I have seen for any movie or tv show to date. I would have to say its the platinum standard for packaging at this point. When it arrives from Amazon its packed carefully in a box. Inside that box the barrel is inside of a plastic display packaging, which at first you think that this is going to be difficult to get off, like those clamshell packages we all hate that spawned the "frustration free" packaging. Well, this packaging is relatively frustration free also, the top is secured with some gummy adhesive, like the kind you get on the back of a credit card to stick it to the page its shipped on. You pull that off and there is another plastic retainer ring of sorts inside that keeps the barrel safe and secure. It would be tough for this to get damaged during shipping. Open that up and you get to the barrel itself. Tempted to try and keep the plastic to keep the barrel even safer, but I don't think that's necessary.. In the top of the barrel are some of the goodies you see in the barrel picture here, the apron is compression packaged and some other miscellany. I'm guessing with this re-release they now have a matchbook that is actually a USB drive with hooks to some "Better Call Saul" media that you need a code to get to. The matchbook comes in a plastic baggie and the code is on a piece of paper in that. The barrel opens up, kinda like a treasure chest, on its side to reveal the Blu-Rays. The barrel itself seems well constructed. When you first look at it you think they're kinda grouped, which they are, but the way there grouped is pretty cool. If you look at the barrel picture with all the blu-rays spread out around it, in the inner ring you see what looks like plastic coasters with images on them. On the edges of these "coasters" are some high-powered rare-earth magnets. The Blu-Rays actually are held inside the "coasters" by the magnets, simply pop the coasters apart and you have access to the Blu-Rays. Very cool, and they look awesome in the barrel.. Not to mention how safe they are!! Overall, very pleased with my purchase, this is an awesome product!!

I'll start right off by saying that I consider Breaking Bad to be the finest TV series ever made -- just a bit better than The Sopranos, Mad Men, and The Wire. So there is absolutely no issue with the content of the episodes here on these Blu-ray discs. The masterful cinematography is really apparent with 1080p playback, the audio quality is outstanding, and the impact of the show's morality play is even better than when it was originally broadcast by AMC or for the tens of thousands who saw it via Netflix streaming. My only criticisms concern the packaging and the menu organization. The plastic barrel is cute, but it doesn't lend itself to fitting in very well with the rest of your DVD collection, and getting the discs in and out of the thing takes more effort than it should. Each season is stored inside a separate clear plastic container that is held together with small magnets that takes quite a bit of fumbling around to open and close. It took me a couple of days to find the special Making of Season 5 documentary, which is attached up inside the top of the barrel lid. The whole thing comes across as "too clever by half", as the British say. The Los Pollos Hermanos apron is stuffed so tightly into the top of the barrel that it was hopelessly wrinkled, so much so that I had to iron it to make it presentable and the hot iron removed some of the silk-screened lettering. No big deal -- it's just a gag prize. What does irk me is the way each disc's menu is setup, with all of a season's features being listed on each and every disc's menu, even though that particular feature may not be present on the disc. For example, you might want to look at a blooper reel which is listed on the menu for disc 1 of season 2, but when you press that selection it instructs you to insert disc 3 to access that. So why include that on the menu for disc 1? None of the other box sets I have are organized this way -- why so here? Some of the Inside Breaking Bad vignettes for each episode are of poor visual quality, as if someone downloaded them from Youtube and stuck them in as an afterthough. Where are the masters for those and couldn't they have been included instead? These are minor quibbles, though. I appreciate that this box set has been produced with all the extra behind the scenes stuff that a Breaking Bad aficionado would desire. In the future, I hope a less cutesy packaging solution will be offered and that the menus for each disc will be organized in a much more traditional manner.

Initially, I did not like this series, because the the first 3 episodes, in particular, were too gory. In addition, for me, much of the first two seasons were boring. The characters were not doing things which were of interest, to me! So, I found the first two seasons gory, gritty, and largely-boring. Yet, commencing, in season 3, the gore was mostly-implied, the suspense built, and I started to get hooked. As already alluded to, however, this series is not suitable, for all ages. Along a similar vein, this series will probably appeal to fans of "The Sopranos", because the main characters are bad people. So, audience members will find themselves rooting, for bad guys. Regardless, the stories were well-written and the acting, directing, plus editing, were very-good! In addition, and as already alluded to, I surprised myself. Although, for the first two seasons, I did not like this series, later, I wanted to see more! In particular, I found myself wanting to buy and watch the spinoff: "Better Call Saul", because I really got to liking the corrupt lawyer, "Saul", in "Breaking Bad"! Yes. Saul was about as bad as his mostly-evil clients, but he was a largely-loyal hard worker - and that was a quality I found appealing! In fact, the "Breaking Bad"'s main character - who was bad, too - also had some good qualities! He was, for instance, very good at 'thinking on his feet'! So, it was really interesting to see how he got out of numerous 'tight' situations! In addition, despite all the bad things he did, the man was, in various ways, repeatedly trying to redeem himself; he was trying to stay true to the 'good person' image he ultimately supported and thought he had or, at least, hoped he had. Thus, from a perspective, it was a tragedy that this good person was, essentially, forced to 'break bad'. Yet, such was just one of many 'tragedies' that the character encountered, while struggling to, eventually, do the right thing - which repeatedly eludes him! I can understand, now, why "Breaking Bad" won lots of awards, but it IS an 'acquired taste'! So, if you're looking, for something, that will likely turn you off, in the beginning, but leave you critically-thinking about underlying subjects, long after the show is over, then this series will probably be a good 'fit', for you! For example, it would not be a 'Spoiler' for me to point out that "Breaking Bad" dealt a lot with America's "War On Drugs". I found it interesting, though, how, given that such a "war" was, in real life, born from bigotry, what grew from the despicable ignorance - despite, in this case, the episodes were fictional! I think they were fair comment! Also, I wondered if the main character deserved greater compassion than what he got. At times, he actually WAS 'fighting the good fight'! So, I suspect that the answer is 'yes'. Another tragedy?

This is a well written series, it has an interesting storyline, good quality acting and is humorous in places. The boxset arrived in good condition, I have not yet managed to watch all of the discs in order to check whether or not they are all working/playing properly (as there are alot of discs to watch) but I have started to work my way through them and so far the discs that I have watched are working just fine. I would recommend this product to other customers.

価格に関しては評価に入れてません 日本在住で英語がわからない以上どうしようもないことなので 少しでも安い所・時に購入してください 作品自体は日本ではまずお目にかかれないような内容 ただの科学教師のおっさんが癌になり、わずかな余命の中で家族の為に何とかしようとドラッグ売買に手を出してというもの 結構ありがちなド素人がどんどん成り上がっていくサクセスストーリーですが 科学に精通していたから高純度のドラッグが作れ、それによって評価されてという感じで 運とか人望とか見えないもので成り上がっていくわけではないので説得力もあり 元が普通のおっさんだから悪の世界で成り上がっても、元々の性格のままで良い人であるといった日本ではよくありそうな感じではなく その世界に染まってドンドンと薄汚くなっていく様もまた素晴らしいと思います そして最終回もまた秀逸です 主人公ウォルターは同情できる部分も多数あるのですが、ストーリーを追うごとにその部分が薄れていく行動をとっていきます ですのでありがちな美談で終わらされると逆にモヤっとした感じになってしまうのですが この作品はその辺スッキリとさせてくれます そういったところも含めて個人的に最高傑作のドラマだと思っています DVDを買うのはちょっとという方も色々と観る方法はあるので是非とも観ていただきたいです 勘違いされそうですが決して悪人の美学や美談など悪の世界を良い様に綺麗に描いている作品ではありません
