I bought this grizzly bear and cougar spray to keep the bears and cougars (both kinds) away from me in WY and MT while I was doing work in the mountains everyday for a month. The size is great, just slip it in the cup holder in a backpack, which makes it very easy to carry. Fortunately, I have never used it, but it is a comfort to know that I have a great protection by my side. I read, carefully, the reviews for this product before purchase, and knew it would be durable, and would have an amazing spray distance for protection. It is a bit pricey, but worth it to keep the bad critters away from you. When it comes to hiking, get bear spray, even if you think you do not need it.

Recently a terrible incident occurred in Texas where a large Bullmastiff attacked and killed one small child and injured another. My daughter, husband, and their two children live in the general area where the attack took place. When I heard of the attack, I was literally sick and feared for the safety of my grandchildren. Following the attack, my daughter was not comfortable taking her two children for walks around the neighborhood because of a large population of pit bulls and rottweiler dogs in the area. I purchased from Amazon the Sabre Frontiersman Bear Attack Deterrent and had it sent to my daughter. The very day she received the cannister, she and her husband took my small grandchildren for a walk. Several blocks from their home they were confronted by a pack of four dogs that included at least two pit bulls and two other large dogs they did not have time to identify. None of the dogs had collars and all were acting very aggressively. As the barking dogs closed in on my daughter's family, my son-in-law let them have it with two short bursts of the bear attack deterrent. Three dogs were hit by the spray. One dog fell to the ground unable to see and the other three immediately retreated. The dog that collapsed to the ground partially recovered and ran from the area. The police were called and immediately responded to search for the dogs. My son-in-law who is a military doctor was so impressed that he ordered several more canisters of Sabre's Bear Attack Deterrent. My family is safe thanks to the Sabre Frontiersman Bear Attack Deterrent. This stuff works.

This product is awesome. I've had it for 9 months now. At the end of the day its for protection and that exactly what it does. I bought two. One for outdoor use and the other I keep by my bedside table for home protection. I use this for Hiking, Walking my dogs and running. It does not matter if it's used on dogs or humans at the end of the day you protected yourself from harm. It is a strong product that shoots far so you don't have to be close to your target (which is great). I have only used this twice. A stray dog that was going to attack me on my run (of course I called the police to report it *dog was taken and treated for burning eyes but I was NOT HARMED) and a bull who went after my dog when I was on a friends ranch. I originally got this product because a woman down the street from my house runs with her two children in a push stroller, she used this against a dog and her and her kids got home safe. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Haven't actually used the product and won't complain if I never do. Astronomy works best with dark skies, which means getting away from built up areas. Here in Colorado, there are not only bears but also mountain lions, and being a lion's dinner is not my ambition. The state division of wildlife recommended strong pepper spray to drive away bears and lions without causing them permanent damage. This product contains a strong concentration of capsaicin to discourage predators from thinking of me as an entree. Once it was clear that 1) the spray range is up to 35 feet, and 2) the whole can empties in 6 seconds if the trigger is held down, a training canister (without the noxious stuff in it) was ordered from the supplier for practice to ensure my aim would be good if a bear or lion came calling. The reason for only 4 stars is that the inert "practice" spray should be offered here as well, maybe as a bundle with the papper spray? If I hadn't checked the company's site, it would not have been obvious that an inert version existed. Not sure how accurate my aim would be if using it the first time in a confrontation with a bear or lion. Also, the price for the inert spray seems higher than it should be.

I was worried we might end up with product that expired soon, but expiration date is 3 years away... Took these camping in bear country. Super easy to see in tent at night - top glows in the dark! Wore for a week camping, fishing, and hiking. I posted pics of holsters after trip and you'll see they practically look like new. Easy to wear on belt (we wore leather belts with metal hardware which made for sturdy, no-slip wear, as well as, quick and easy removal for restroom or changing clothes). TIP: if you have back/hip problems and plan to wear this more than 1-2 days, I recommend switching which side you wear it on, every 2 days, to prevent dominant-side type pain (one-sided weight bearing pain). I'm very pleased with this purchase.

It is like comfort food, u buy this product thinking that it's going to protect you... Right? but the plus is that you don't have to use it, nice!!! So many trips that have been on and i have encountered Bears and they want o get out of your way... No matter what! We have all watched the videos and we all want to be in those pristine places and are all dumbfound by the beauty when we get there to the places we have hiked so hard to get to... The Fact remains is i still carry a concealed carry 45ACP for added protection... i don't want kill the natural beauty of the wildlife in this pristine part of the world....... cuz we all know its their world... this is the best first line of defense of kit you will ever carry... it's the most humane thing to do in their domain... If it's to close for comfort this is the best first line of defense... 90% of the time they get out of your way with a short burst of this humane amazing product... I cannot comment on how effective this product is, luckily I've been blessed and haven't been in a situation where I am face to face with a bear!! However, I can say when I ordered this item, I was constantly updated with the delivery process, which arrived quickly and well packaged. Having looked at the bear spray more closely, I'm really impressed with the quality of the pouch which is provided, its a strong hardwearing nylon webbing, which is very comfortable hanging from my belt. I also love the fact it has a glow in the dark trigger, which may not mean much to some people, but when it is late at night and you are out camping, I think that is when you'll truly appreciate that nice little feature. Again, I've never used this product, but I do carry it every time I go out walking, I forget I am even wearing it, but I feel safer knowing I have it.

I'm planning a spring trip in 2017, and will be camping in the Cascades and Rocky mountains. Naturally, I don't want to "feed the bears". Testing the effectiveness of the spray beforehand isn't in the cards, I'll trust that the manufacturer did their part. . There are a couple of 1 star reviews that should be addressed. 1 - Plastic cap breaking/coming off - Other than hitting, or dropping upside down, I don't see how this is possible. I yanked hard and twisted the cap on my can, and if feels immoveable. I'll chalk their problem up to damage. 2 - "Holster dissolved" - I was expecting the holster to be poorly made. A throw-away, flimsy, P.O.S., nothing could be further from the truth. While it's not military grade, it is nicely made. The sheath is actually a wide elastic material that holds the can firmly. Little chance of it falling out with normal use. I will concede that the belt loop should be double stitched. I'll chalk their problem up to poor stitching by whoever made it. Check yours and return it immediately if poorly made, mine was fine. BTW - The belt loop on mine will take a 2 1/2 inch belt. 3 - Prohibited by TSA on airline flights - Only one star because the TSA doesn't want you to take it on an airplane??? ***The warning is a good one***, but it doesn't reflect on the product. Write about the product, not your mistakes.
