Would you choose these sandals for walking around nyc all day in the summer? ...or something more padded?

Birkenstock makes an awesome tennis shoe. I'm on my feet all day and they support my feet wonderfully. I only wear birkenstock now ,they are my favorite shoes.

No, the footbed does not have any padding, though it is the classic supportive Birkenstock footbed.

are they from leather? what is the difference with birko flor?

I believe the "Birko-flor" is synthetic, so if you want a leather upper, avoid that particular description when searching:)
