We adopted a lovebird with Fatty Liver disease; it was recommended to us that we get him a Milk Thistle product with no alcohol. Have you ever tried finding milk thistle extract without alcohol? Locally, it's impossible. After going to one health food store after another, I could not find any of them that were suitable. And $11 or more a bottle, besides that. When I found this product on Amazon plus S&S, it was a miracle! And this product works great. I do not use this for people, just on my pet, so my review is pet-specific. Don't dose a bird directly with this product. Don't put it in their water either, unless you monitor them. My lovebird stopped drinking his water because of the taste of this product in it. So, I had to buy Avi-Cakes. We had weaned my bird off seed (the cause of his fatty liver disease) but he's still a seed craver, so the AviCake was the perfect solution. It's 50% seed and 50% pellet, I soak a square (the equivalent to about a teaspoon of seed/pellets) every morning with about 6 drops of the Milk Thistle extract, and I know he gets some of this every morning that way. Not enough seed to exacerbate his liver disease but definitely he is getting therapeutic benefits from the product. He is 11 this year, and we've had him 3 years. He had fatty liver disease before we got him (who knows how long) and he really should not still be alive, but he is! And he's healthy. Since starting the milk thistle two years ago (i used another brand that became unavailable) he has had a dramatic increase in feathering. Before, all his growth went into the massive beak he was growing due to the fatty liver disease. I love this milk thistle product, it works!! UPDATE 06-2013: He's now been on milk thistle for four years, and last year his beak growth changed. When we got him, he had this MASSIVE thick top beak that just would not stop growing. Now, the top beak growth is normal. It's just his BOTTOM beak that grows now, but it's not huge and thick like the top beak. We have to have his bottom beak trimmed 2x a month (nowhere near normal for a healthy bird in case you wonder). But, his feathering is like a normal bird now and his toenails even grow normally as well. (Before, they hardly grew, and he had poor feathering. EVERYTHING went into making that huge honking Jimmy-Durante beak!) He's 12 this year, he's had fatty liver for four years (no doubt longer) and he is active, bright-eyed, and healthy. I was able to start adding the milk thistle to his water at long last, but it took years of trying before he would accept it in his water.

I take 3-5 drops several times a day. Lasts longer than bottle says. No aftertaste.

Got this for my 12-yr old male after he had eaten some houseplant material which he should not have gotten into. It made him pretty sick with vomiting, lethargy, etc. Have since gotten rid of my pothos... The way I administer it to him is in his wet food by the drop. I read that one drop contains approx. 35 mg of milk thistle. I make a small depression into a pile of his canned food, drop 1 drop into it and cover it up into a mound. Don't stir! He cannot taste or smell it and gobbles it right down. Over a couple of weeks I plan to increase the drops gradually probably working up to about 3/day in his biggest meal at night. He only weighs around 10 lbs. For a bigger animal or a dog, I think dosing by weight like this is probably going to be fine. The only thing to consider is not to increase the dosage too fast, to allow the liver to gradually cleanse itself and not overwhelm the body with too many toxins all at once. He seems much more energetic even after just 4 days and seems to have had no adverse reaction whatsoever to the milk thistle. I take it too and find it tastes just fine by the way. The glycerin sweetens the taste. I think it 's a wonderful product for humans as well as animals.

I am an advocate of homeopathic medicine. I have been intermittent fasting since August. Have several health issues, 2 being, fatty liver & severe insulin resistance. I used it (in addition to Nature's Answer Vitex Berry, 1-Ounce & Nature's Answer Black Cohosh Root, 1-Ounce) as directed on label to relieve severe pain symptoms I had (for over 8 plus months, 09/12-05/13) due to diagnosed fibroids and ovarian cycsts. I won't lie I was taking them individually at first, then I just started mixing them together during each dosing, mixing them with just enough grapefruit juice to get it down cause the tastes are horrid... alone and in water. But I started noticing the pain slowly dulling for me after a week or so of continued consistent use. Now I've used them all up, except for a corner in each bottle and I'm ordering more as soon as I can and will take them at least twice a week for maintenance to keep the pain away, and help the herbs last longer so I won't have to buy them so frequently. So I highly recommend these products, they worked for me and my former issues, but read everything closely to make sure it lines up with your symptoms, follow the directions to the "T", and for goodness sake get it a reasonable time period to work, they are herbs after all, not the man-made stuff that was created to act instantly. My cat was diagnosed with Pancreatitis over a year ago. I'm not into western style medications because they can and often do have side effects that rival the sickness they are supposed to be curing. Nevertheless, Pancreatitis is a serious illness which can lead to death if not treated (humans can also get pancreatitis BTW). With that in mind I tried really, really hard to get the medications prescribed by the vet down her. No luck. Anyone with a cat knows what I was up against. The next step was to investigate herbal and other natural substances. One of the medications prescribed by the vet was based on milk thistle though it was an unnatural substitute for milk thistle. I ran across this item and even though the company states this Nature's Answer Alcohol-Free Milk Thistle has not been tested on animals, what choice did I have but to try it. Several reviewers were using it safely with their animals. Since there were no directions for pets, I had to guess how much to use so decided to put two drops in each meal. She is fed twice a day so that is 4 drops daily. I add the two drops to her food. In addition, I take the top off the cap and add about a third of the capsule of this product to each meal Ark Naturals, Gentle Digest, 60 caps . Finally, I add a third of one of these capsules to each meal PetAlive Pancreas Booster Capsules, 60-Count Bottle . This item is expensive but it lasts a long time plus these three things saved her, seriously. Her vomiting stopped almost right away and she over time returned to her playful, pre-pancreatitis self. To conclude, there is a belief that too much oil in the diet may be responsible, at least in part, for this disease. What happens is digestive juices are released too early from the pancreas which causes the vomiting. I believe there is something to this because I had some perfectly good Alaskan salmon oil and put a few drops on her food one day and she didn't upchuck but she became lethargic all day. After a few days, I tried one more time, the same thing happened so no more salmon oil. Dried food is killing our pets IMO so I was feeding raw but not organic. When she became sick I discovered the chicken meat I had been feeding her came from chickens eating GMO corn. I immediately switched her over to low-fat good quality canned food, Weruva & Earthborn, both of which agree with her (change a cat's diet gradually, not all at once). I do NOT know anyone at either of those companies but post this in case it helps someone else going through this with their fur baby. My dog had eaten something (I don't know what). All I know is that my dog's nerves were damaged, because he was losing the ability to stand up. When he ate some rat poison back on the last week of January 2024 (this year), I took him to the VET and they told me he had 2 days to live and needed an operation worth $2K or I would need to pay $350 to put him to sleep. I told them I will get a second opinion and came home and started my research. I googled "What does it mean when a dog can not stand up," and was told "NERVE DAMAGE." I again Googled "What natural herb do you give a do who has nerve damage?" Answer: Milk Thistle. I ordered Milk Thistle, Nerve Tonic, and Alfalfa for vitamins. All were tinctures. I began to give my dog the tinctures and after 3 days I began to see improvement. After one-two weeks he was walking, jumping, eating, playing - back to his normal self. So, when started walking wobbly. I knew what it was. I used the little milk thistle I had left and immediately ordered two more bottles. After giving him the milk thistle this week he is now back to normal. I didn't have to use the Milk Thistle I purchased from Amazon, but started using the Alfalfa. I bought 2 bottles and keep them in the fridge. I will always keep milk thistle on hand in case of emergency, but I'm going to buy a muzzle to put around his mouth to keep him from licking and eating everything he sees outside when I take him for a walk. This milk thistle was given to a cat as a result of a liver issue. The cat did not seem opposed to it at all. I mixed in a few drops into a liquid diet that I was feeding him and he did not seem to notice a taste difference. Also, an alcohol free milk thistle is quite hard to find so I am very glad to have found one. Tips for use: -Shake well -Empty out dropper and re take up shaken liquid -Each drop = 36mg of milk thistle The bottle is glass and is around 4 inches tall and 1 inch in diameter. Amazing product and amazing results My SGPT and SGOT was on higher side but after taking this product it came back to normal in just 1 month But it's very very costly

Only after my LFT test will come to know the effects. Till the time I reserve my comments. Product quality and packing is good.
