Great workout that adjusts to your capabilities
I have been using Nike+ Kinect Training for over 4 months now and it has helped me build endurance and muscle, burn calories and get me in better shape. The program constantly measures you to let you know how you're doing, and does an assessment at the beginning of each 4-week program to assess your progress overall. The assessment is called a "fuel-print" and gives you a measure or your athleticism and your fitness level, and uses those measures to compare you to others in your age group as well as the trainers. Your fuel-print will (hopefully) improve with each 4 week assessment. Based on my needs, I have 3 sessions a week: 2 cardio and 1 strength. I'll usually add in an extra session a week for weight training (some exercises use 2 dumb bells), and have also added on the upper body+core and lower body+ core add on packs (can be purchsed with 400 Xbox points each). I try to get in about 5 sessions a week total, the add-ons are usually 15-30 minutes each, and the regular trainings sessions I am currently at 45 minutes/session for cardio and about 30 minutes for strength. The Nike+ web site also does a good job of tracking your achievements and history. I like that the program pushes improvements incrementally and tailors your workouts to your progress. When I started, the program was set for 6-7 20-30 second exercises (e.g., high-knees run in place) and after 4 months I'm now up to 60 second exercises with about 12 exercises done in 2 sessions (with a 2 minute "rest" period in between). As a person who, on my own, would probably not invest a lot of time in warm-up or cool-down, this program ensures that I am exercising with a great plan and does not push me far beyond my abilities. The first week or so, I was sore (had not been in an exercise program before) but that quickly dissipated. I also like that the program does a pretty good job of telling me if I am doing the exercises correctly and coaches me on how to improve. Some issues with the program: There tends to be a lot of focus on lower-body bouncing type of exercises. Hops (on both or one leg) are common in the warmups. The tracking with the Kinect can sometimes be off and may not credit me with my movements; it takes some time to get around the quirks of the system. The program needs a lot of room to take advantage of it. I'd give it 9-12 feet from the Kinect to be optimal and about 4 feet right and left. A recent update has caused the program to freeze for a few seconds at the beginning of some drills. A recent update has caused the program not to recognize me and I need to sign in each time. I wish there was some way to tell the program to substitute one exercise with another - for example, I have a bone spur in an ankle and the one-footed hopping can sometimes be painful. Overall, I am very happy with the program and have kept up with it, and plan on continuing with it.

Great Kinect-based workout program
This is a fun and effective workout program which makes good use of Kinect motion-sensing technology. Be aware that it is not a "game" at all - just an animated personal trainer who walks you through a customized workout. However, there are several features that provide good psychological incentives to push yourself and workout often, which may help those who struggle to find motivation with a classic home workout dvd. I like a lot of the features: - I was pleased and surprised at the large variety of exercises. The workouts are different every time, which keeps things fun and targets all muscle groups. Most are classic exercises like squats, lunges, burpees, push-ups, jumping jacks, etc., but there are many different variations on these which are fun to learn and do. - the cardio workouts are quite intense. I workout a fair amount and these really get my heart rate up. Tough interval training seems to be very effective. - I like the fitness tests, and it's neat how the difficulty level of the program is automatically adjusted so it's tailored to your fitness level. This also allows the program to grow and change as you do - it's something you won't outgrow. - excellent motion tracking - you can see a cool looking, very realistic hologram of yourself as you do the workout, and the game is generally very good at counting reps and recognizing what you are doing. Gives fairly subtle and accurate feedback on form (such as keep chest up, knees higher, etc.). - you choose a schedule (3 workouts per week, for example), then it shows you a calendar with your workout history each time you turn on the game. This motivates me to not miss a workout - don't want to see a hole on that calendar. - you redo the fitness tests every four weeks, and can track your improvements over time, which I also find motivating. Some things I don't like: - for some reason my Kinect sensor cannot see my entire body - depending on how it's angled, either my head or my feet are out of range (no matter how close or far I am from the sensor too). On some moves this causes the tracking to read wrong, because it can't see my feet. - the default workout is quite short - 20-25 minutes. You do have the option to add more circuits to the routine to lengthen it, and it seems that you really need to add at least 2 to get in a decent-length workout. Personally I find repeating the same exercises over and over boring - I wish there was a way to choose the workout length you wanted, and have longer workouts contain more different exercises. Sometimes I just end up doing the default 20 minute workout, then doing something else afterwards. - the trainer inevitably says something like "almost done, just a few more reps!" right AFTER the clock has already ticked down to 00:00 and the bell has rung to indicate that you're done. Not a big deal, just gets annoying that the timing of this cue is clearly off. - also somewhat annoying is the fact that if you make a mistake on an exercise just once (maybe you got distracted, or maybe the motion sensor was off for some reason), the game remembers and each and every time you do it again, it reminds you: "you've had some trouble with this one in the past, haven't you? So let's really work on it today..." I realize that they're trying to motivate you, but the constant repetition just gets irritating, especially when it's an exercise you don't actually have a problem with. - the animated versions of the personal trainers are creepy - should have made them either more cartoonish, or more realistic. Uncanny valley. - personally I don't like the aesthetics of the backgrounds - they're going for a "gritty, urban" feel I guess with lots of gray concrete and busy city streets - I would have preferred something beautiful, relaxing, and inspiring. The problems are really minor quibbles - overall I like this workout program a lot and would recommend it to people of various fitness levels.

Probably best for a begining younger person who prefers home to gym
I love Kinect exercise "games". I do all my exercise at home with the help of a good treadmill with incline, a good heart rate monitor, and various movement tracking games for the muscles and variety part of my weight loss routine (mostly Kinect, some PS3) The Kinect user interface is similar to the Dance Central games with skinny little side menu entries that you have to steady your hand over carefully and then swipe sideways. I found this to be too small of a target compared to Your Shape. Also I thought there was too many selections to get through on a fresh day rather than jumping straight into your program already in progress. It's better quality than The Biggest Loser game (I got rid of that game, partly because the controls were too difficult to select). The worst control item was the one I use/need the most - Resume, in the lower left corner. I have to wave my arms around and wait an eternal 3-5 second before my hand successfully can select Resume. Besides the too small controls, the next thing I hated was the jarring movements. This isn't going to work for me. I'll continue doing my modified, softened jumps and try to get used to hearing "you can do better" I don't like that you can't skip the warm up, since I use games like this in combination with the treadmill. At least the warm ups are fairly intense and technical. It does let me bail out of the cool down but I don't know what that does for completing the program. I didn't like that it didn't let me exercise on the first day after the assessment test. I wanted to start my program that same day. I didn't like that it forces you to chose between get strong, get toned/sculpted (body resistance only), or fat burn only. I would like a blend of these 3 things throughout the week, maybe even within one workout. I tried the get toned middle one but right away it had way too many jumpy jarring movements that made me hate the game so much I would stop exercising if this was all I had. I switched to get strong, but it wanted a cardio day from me right off. argh. The game tracking is very good. I think the movement tracking is as good as Your Shape 2012, but the control tracking is more difficult to use than I'd like. The exercise content seems very good so far, but much more ideal for someone who can withstand jumping, jarring movement. The assessment test in particular is pretty impressive, thorough, long (reserve about 30 minutes for this part), and technical. But it assumes any body imbalances or restrictive movements are related to unconditioned body parts that can be corrected over time. I don't think so. The transitions from one movement to the next, especially from floor to standing and back, are too fast for slower moving individuals. You'll fall behind if you're too slow to get back up, and pull your mat out and get back down. So far I much prefer to grab the dumbells and use Your Shape 2012 after I've got 30 minutes in the aerobic zone done and out of the way, walking on the treadmill with incline. I also still use the original Your Shape because can keep going through some cyclical toning towards the end of my routine, until I get to my calorie goal, if that is what I feel like doing that day. The original trainer that I still like is EA Sports Active 2. The PS3 one had way less tracking glitches but more stuff to put on (and that stuff can break, for a no longer supported game). The Kinect one has a few significant bugs that will never be fixed, but I still like it for a solid and well-rounded guided fitness routine that involves weights. But still, I prefer to get the first 30 minutes of aerobic zone out of the way on the treadmill before I use any of these trainer games. I will continue to try the Nike Trainer program and will certainly update my review if my opinion changes, since it is a strong one. I do have a floor mat (more for sit-ups)but that's not going to cut it to soften the jumping issue. update 1/23/13 - I'm in week 2 of Get Strong. It barely gives you 2 days a week of "weight training", and only ONE of the exercises involves weights (romanian deadlifts). Yesterday was supposed to be a weights day but it told me to do cardio (which would be a bug). I actually skipped out of the game this morning when it was Cardio again. Why? because of too much jumping, especially on one ankle. If my knees and ankles could take it, I'm sure this gets results! I'm torn between recognizing the great challenging techniques and knowing they'll wreck my joints worse than they already are. Also, the change up of weights routines from week 1 to week 2? There wasn't one. Exact same group of exercises for as long as you're willing and able to repeat it. Planks get great results, but I don't want to do more than 2 or 3 sets of them, bleah! So do I recommend this? Meh, it is worthwhile to buy if you already have YourShape, and maybe a treadmill. You can use it in combo with the other things for a longer, more varied, well-balanced workout at home. Would I want it as my only workout choice every day? No. I'd get injured, and very bored of the same stuff repeating until I get to my calorie/time goal. And it wouldn't give me as much weight training as I wanted. So an average of 3 stars for the good and the bad of it. 3/3/13 - One last thing - if you quit out of the 4-week program, you finally get to choose what type of workout you want that day, how long, and what intensity (via the Quick Start Menu). Takes an extra minute or two, but worth it for me. Much better but I still leave the 3 star in place.

Worth the purchase and would recommend!
I received this game pretty quickly, the seller even provided tracking so I knew when I would be getting it. The game is pretty fun to play, I've been playing all afternoon. Some people have said that you need a huge playing area or completely empty living room, I would agree however whenever I play kinect in general I move all of the furniture out of the way so that I have roughly between 8-10 square feet of playing space. This game is not intended for people looking to get in shape or lose weight. It is a training game. When you put the disc in to play for the first time it says it is for athletes and is designed to build and or tone, help lose fat (that you may have put on during the off season), or help you train for your sport. Now I do believe that whoever plays this game will get a workout designed for them, and if they really do want to reach their goal they will need to push themselves and work to get what they want, so no it's not easy. Game controls are really easy to work too, all you do is raise your arm straight out until the game recognises it and then select your option and swipe your arm. I've only been playing this game for a day so I can not comment about the workout plans, however they seem pretty nice and everything is not consistent which is great for working out.

Noticable results in 4 weeks!
I waited for the price to drop on this title and have had it for about 6 weeks. There are some things I really like about it and a few minor annoyances. The good: ~The initial assessment kicked my butt. It made me realize how out of shape I have become and got me ready to take the program seriously. ~I like that it creates a program based on a pretty decent assessment of your fitness, agility and flexibility. My wife was given a slightly different program so it seems legit. ~It does not take long to see an improvement in balance, endurance and fitness. ~Some of the exercises are pretty fun. ~It does a very good job of watching your form on most movements and does not count reps if they are not done correctly. ~It is convenient like a dvd program, but more interactive. The imperfect: ~Both the talking and exercises get repetitive quickly. I didn't think it would bother me when I read about that in other reviews, but it does start to get annoying quicker than I expected. ~An extension of the above, but worth mentioning on its own is that the trainer tells me I have had trouble with specific exercises in the past at least once a workout-whether I have had trouble with them or not. I don't know why I care if a computerized cartoon is not giving me proper credit, but I do. Damn it. ~You do need a lot of space for it to work correctly, which is not a problem for me, and the sensor is pretty dead on for most exercises, however the one legged dead lifts never really reads me right. ~The one that was shipped to me was part of a broken set and not for individual sale so there was no instruction book. I feel ripped off, but the seller probably counts on people like me who are too lazy to send it back and complain. I searched reviews after I got mine for similar reports and there was at least one. Kind of shady. I am glad I got this, and my wife likes it too. It's not a lot of fun, really, and I wonder how long it will keep my interest. No matter what, it takes will power like any exercise program to make it happen.

This is the real deal!
I am pretty athletic - I run Tough Mudders and triathlons and 1/2 marathons and practice martial arts and lift and etc. you get the idea. This kinect game can push you to your limits. It can be easy if you are a beginner (my wife uses it and loves it too!), or it can be absolutely brutal if you are advanced. The tracking is about 95% spot on, and shocked me with its ability to pick up on my bad form as I fatigue. By far the best kinect tracking I have seen. Has workouts for you if you have your own weights as well. Synced it with Nike+ website and tried the Nike+ android app for tracking your runs. The website, and the running app are both great and will help you keep your fitness organized. Overall, great integration. If you are looking for a kinect fitness game, don't waste your time elsewhere, this is the real deal. UPDATE: just finished my first month and this is still great. It has some trouble on tracking Romania deadlift, but is otherwise good. NOTE: you need a lot of space! A huge amount of space. Also, if you are wearing anything looser than compression gear, it will have trouble tracking you on some of the more difficult exercises. I will be starting my next month of kinect fitness!

Serious Butt-Kicking Workout
Hi Folks: I am 56-years old, over weight and out of shape. I have been working out on my treadmill, putting in 66-minutes of 4-mph power walking. I have lost 43-lbs, and still have 40-lbs to meet my personal goal. I purchased Zumba dancing and this Nike-Training. I gave this training game 5-stars because it does exactly what it is designed to do...work your butt off! Be warned, there is NO WAY to start off in a beginner mode and work your way to advanced mode. It hit me hard. I could not make it through the initial evaluation of my condition without receiving mostly zeros on my effort. Some due to not mimicking the trainer correctly and some because I physically was not ready to perform at the required level. This game beat the crap out of me. I will continue to use my treadmill and Zumba dancing until I am at a condition level to be able to use this Nike training the way the game wants to be used. Oh, and the consistent negative feedback by the trainer because I was not able to do the exercises perfectly was very demeaning and made me want to walk away and give up. I was tired of seeing all the zeros for each exercise. With all this said, my current condition of over weight and out of shape is my own fault, and certainly not that of the Nike training game. That is why I gave it 5-stars. It is perfect for those wanting to maintain a high level of condition. Once I am at that level, I will start to use it again. Thank you, Smacka

Big Disappointment with the seller: Express Source
I will never order from this company again. While there was no damage to my Nike+Kinect Training game, the game is clearly labeled, "Not Packaged for Individual Sale." I wrote a negative review discussing this and stating that the game either came out of a bundle package or it was pirated because it lacked any Microsoft seal on the packaging. I received an email response from "jim." He asked for my phone number so that he could call me directly to discuss my issue with the order. I gave him my phone number and he did call me. He explained that the game was from a bundle and they had received 400 of the units from a source and that nobody in his business bothered to check the units before shipping them out. He said that if I would remove the negative feedback, he would credit my Amazon account $20 which I could spend anywhere on Amazon. I told him I felt his explanation was reasonable and since I had already given the game as a gift, I couldn't exchange it for a legitimate one. The person who received the game did confirm for me that it works fine, so I accepted "Jim's" offer and removed my negative feedback. I then emailed him to let him know the feedback was removed and that I expected the $20 credit to appear on my account within 24hrs. It's now 96 hours later and there is nothing on my account so I am posting this review in hopes that others will not fall for this scam and buy from these guys. Because of the way Amazon works, I cannot repost my customer feedback on the seller once it's been removed so, after speaking with an Amazon CSR, I am posting this review, which now, is the only one I can make besides a packaging review, and there was nothing wrong with the packaging.

Great trainer, I'm definitely happy with this fitness game
Just finished my first week training and my muscles are so sore but man it hurts sooo good. Nike + Kinect is very versatile. It teaches cardio, strength, agility, balance, you name it. It Could be used by a beginner or by a seasoned pro. You do a fitness test before you start your personal training and based on your results it will draw you a program just based on your current physical condition. After the 4 week are up you take the fitness test again and see if you've improved. I just finished my first week and I have improved tremendously. I was always good with cardio as I have been running regularly and do Zumba occasionally but when it comes to planks and push ups and anything to do with core strength I usually avoid lol. I hate push ups with a passion. N e who, day 1 I was doing 3-4 (modified) push up before I fell flat on my belly. On day 6 of this program I am doing 15 reps. (mind you I took a break at rep #8 but still it is a huge improvement for someone like me who avoided push up and planks all her life). As a jogger I never cared for strength training but I feel after 1 week with Nike + Kinect I am a better runner, my cadence is faster as if I have a faster muscle response in the lower legs. My legs feel stronger overall thanks to 15 reps of squats and lunges. Now I know why people promote cross training. Will finish up the program and report back. Remember, you get what you put in. This game will usually give you 1 drill and ask if you want to do more. I usually say yes and take on more, the more you put in the sooner you'll see the results. And this is as long your family doesn't mind seeing you angry, yelling at the t.v. and crying because your stomach muscles are on fire during the 'dead bug' workout (oh dead bug, I hate you too). But it is all worth it. I always feel alive after each workout. I am taking a break from Zumba and the boring treadmill and will focus on my training with Nike + Kinect. I rate this game overall 5 stars. I give it 1 star for the <fun> aspect because for me, it is no fun at all. It's all business which is not a bad thing. If you're looking for fun, go with Zumba or Dance central or whatever other dance games out there.
