Great quality, low price
Heavy duty, very sharp, great lock mechanism, fine steel and comfy scales. It is as solid as a fixed-blade knife. Initially I could not open or close it one-handed, the triad lock mechanism was way too stiff, but after a couple of hours fidgeting as I watched TV it loosened up. I had to work it, lubricate it and let it sit half-open for a couple of days before it settled in. The pocket clip was way too stiff but I cured that by wedging 1/8" of cardboard beneath the clip and letting it sit for a week. It's an outstanding heavy-duty workhorse knife but I wouldn't select it for EDC off the job because it's big in the pocket and not easy to open or close. It's outstanding steel at this price point. It is a fine knife for under $100 and will always get the job done. However for off-work EDC it won't be replacing my Spydie PM2 or Benchmade Griptilian. Highly recommended however, this is a beast I'm proud to own.

The AD-10's little brother.
The Ultimate Hunter is Cold Steel's answer to a smaller AD-10. Available in either black, or 'hi-viz' orange scales for easy visibility in heavy foliage, or snow. I really wanted the black-version, but got the orange in a mis-order. But actually, I like the orange version better. It can best be described: as light, sharp, and solid. Tough enough to be a camp, or woods-folder; yet light-enough to be an EDC. Knife-action was a little tight from the box, but a little Militec fixed that. Pretty easy to set-up for left-handed orientation, and conveniently drilled for a lanyard. I routinely pocket the larger XL's from Cold Steel, and didn't notice the carry weight at all. Purchased this folder for under a hundred on Amazon, which was the best price around! Triad lock makes the blade snap-into-place, rock-solid. Add-in, the S35VN steel alloy, and you can't beat it for quality. Great folder, and I recommend it.

Stop Spending Money On Cheap Knives
Why spend $50 for a cheap knock off knife made with low quality parts. Spend a few dollars more and get this Ultimate Hunter from Cold Steel before they are gone. American S35VN steel that has proven itself on a solid Cold Steel platform with a lock up that can't be beat. If you take care of this knife, it might be the last folder you will ever need to buy. I carried and still have the original SRK, and several Cold Steel models with S35VN blades. They hold a great edge and I only need to make a few passes on my ceramic honer once or twice a month if I am using one of the knives regularly to keep a fine edge. At under $90, it is not just a deal, it is a steal! The Ultimate Hunter comes with a flat saber grind, not a convex grind. That is a plus as far as I am concerned. I have purchased all my Cold Steel knives from Cold Steel. They all have great fit and finish and the blades are all fairly centered. Cold Steel also uses lock tight on all of the screws so you don't have to worry about these coming apart on you after a few weeks of use. Of the 4 folder models I have, the Ultimate Hunter is my favorite. This will meet most of your work, hunting and survival needs and is an excellent choice as an all around EDC. This is a heavy duty knife to get work done. If you are looking for a fast fancy flipping tactical knife, this is not the knife for you. If you need a tough knife to get work done, I highly recommend the Ultimate Hunter.

A beautiful Trifecta
I'm a big fan of Cold Steel S35VN, and the Ultimate Hunter is no exception. I ordered the black version because it was $10 cheaper, but to my surprise an orange one showed up, which is what I actually wanted but was too cheap to spend extra for it. So, it worked out well for me getting the color I wanted and saving the $10. These 3 knives are an excellent family, and I highly recommend them all. Medium (Ultimate Hunter), Large (AD10), and X-Large (4Max Scout). This is a review of the Ultimate Hunter (bottom). I love CS, but some of their knives come stiff and gritty. I generally break them down, clean them, apply some KPL to the pivot, with blue Loctite for the screws on the way out. That wasn't necessary with this UH. The S35VN satin blade came flawless and was shaving sharp right out of the box. No strop needed. The grind was crisp and even, and the blade was perfectly centered with excellent detent. Thumb flicking is easy. I wish CS would offer their knives in micarta, but the G10 is fine and fits my L-XL hands well and is quite comfortable. The scale/spine thumb jimping is nice and allows you to really lock in. Overall, it does ride a bit big in the pocket, but within reason for a knife this size. The pocket clip is a bit excessive, but it's fine. It does offer some lefty love with an extra included clip. The weight is good for a knife this size. The one drawback is that I wish it had some semblance of a sharpening choil, but it's not even close to being a deal breaker. I'm also a big fan of the Triad lock (shocker, I know). It's amazing. That, coupled with an S35VN blade make this a no brainer if you can catch it on sale in the $70-75 range. Highly recommended.

Workhorse EDC knife, if I could only own one knife this would be it.
This knife is great. I doubt you could do better if you spent double the money. I've been shaving sticks to points just for fun since I got it and the blade still feels brand new. Handle is sturdy and ergonomic, feels almost like a fixed blade with virtually no play when locked in place. Feels good in the hand, a little large if you are looking for a compact knife to pocket carry but I keep it in a sheath and work in the trades, so I like having a workhorse blade with me. You won't go wrong with this one.

An excellent EDC knife on the farm
The Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter is an all round outstanding tool/folding knife for every day use on the farm. All pros here on this amazing folder over the last few weeks of hard use - no cons found for any on farm uses. Large 3.5" drop point blade with American stainless steel construction. Very sharp blade out of the box - easily cuts through rope, twine, zip ties, tape, bags and card board boxes like butter. Also great size for cutting any plant material and even used it as a harvest knife in a pinch. Ergonomic G-10 handle in Orange - so when I lose this knife in the vineyard or in the field or in the barn, I can find it! Easy to carry this tool in your front jeans pocket too - extra large clip keeps it in your pocket. The Tri-Ad Lock mechanism on Cold Steel knives is amazing. I have other Cold Steel knives with this blade lock and I really like it. Easy to use/disengage on this Ultimate Hunter right out of the box. It almost makes this folder into a fixed blade knife! Great price on Amazon too and Prime delivery. Highly recommended as an EDC on the farm.

Modern Tank of a knife
I was quite pleasantly surprised with the Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter. It came hair splitting sharp out of the box with S35VN steel blade at about 5/32 thick or about 3.5 mm. The handle ergonomics are excellent even for large hands. The backspring is a monster and the Triad Lock is solid with no blade play. I cannot release the blade with a thumb press to the lock release located approximately mid spine. I usually have to press the release against something solid to release the blade. Mine is also not flickable to open one handed with the thumb stud. I can open it one handed but it is not fast, more like a strained slow push open. Once open, it’s like a fixed blade knife that devours whatever needs cutting. I’m right handed but the knife comes with a threaded thumb stud that will adjust to either side and an extra clip designed for left handed carry and operation. This is a large general purpose knife that only weighs 5 ounces due to the use of composite material for an integral frame and handle. If you need a strong knife for hard work, this might be the knife for you. If you just want to have a knife for ocassional light work, it takes up a lot of pocket space so you might consider a closeable sheath for belt carry or get a smaller knife. The price point is a bargain to me considering like blades might cost double what the Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter sells for.

OUTSTANDING IN EVERY RESPECT!
This is one awesome knife in every respect. The textured and incredibly strong G10 handle makes this robust knife feel great in the hand. The blade is substantial and so sharp that it may cut you if you stare at it too long, well almost. With a perfectly-sized thumb stud, the blade is easy to open, but just a tad on the stiff side, which is a good thing. The lockup is a thing of beauty. It glides into place with a significant snap telling you that it's good to go. It's tight as a bank vault, and the blade centers perfectly when closed. The pocket clip is equally strong and holds the knife right where you want it. Myself, I generally use a belt pouch for knives of this size simply because I don't like having things take up room in my pockets. Either way, you will certainly be pleased. While primarily designed for hunting and such, it's a great all-purpose knife for EDC. Additionally, S35VN is an excellent high quality steel that can take rough treatment and ask for more. I'm one of those folks who has been there and done that, so it takes a lot to impress me, and this knife definitely does. I also love the orange color. I like this folder so well that I'm going to order another to leave in the equipment bag that stays in my car. As for the dollar for dollar value, this is equally awesome. I've had folders costing a lot more than this that were not as nice. In summation, I am totally pleased with this knife in every respect and can recommend it highly. Stay safe out there and God bless!

Spitzen Taschenmesser
