Satin Ice Gum Paste for Cake Decorating, White (2 Pound)

For my son's recent wedding, I baked a 5-tiered cake. It was my first time using fondant and gumpaste, and I had a few nervous moments before it came together. I have always used buttercream icing but, after using the Satin Ice Gumpaste and Fondant brands...not sure I will ever go back to buttercream again, except as a basecoat. I was pleasantly surprised at the texture and ease of the Satin Ice Gumpaste when shaping the hundreds of flower petals---seemed like it took forever---but they turned out beautiful. My daughter-in-law wanted Calla Lilies, Stargazer Lilies, and Cymbidium Orchids. Yeah, I know, right? Just something "simple" for my first time. Hahaha! After some practice, lots of YouTube tutorials, and a lot of patience, I was thrilled they actually looked like the real deal. A few helpful hints I can pass along is the gumpaste dries out REALLY fast so you have to work quickly to shape your flowers. I covered and wrapped any unused small portions immediately. I did not use powdered sugar or cornstarch to dust my board or roller but, worked a small amount of shortening onto my board, roller, and hands whenever I handled the gumpaste. This made the paste more pliable and kept it from cracking and drying out as fast. Working with smaller amounts at a time helped, too. To color the gumpaste, I used Wilton's gel food coloring. I just kneaded it in until I had the right color. The dusting powders were the easiest and prettiest though for adding color and special highlights. Took about 24 to 48 hours for some of my thicker flowers to dry completely before I could handle them without them falling apart. They are fragile so keep that in mind when arranging them on your cake. I made an edible glue from about a cup of hot water and a quarter-sized ball of gumpaste that I added and let dissolve. As for taste, it has a slight marshmellow taste, kind of like fondant but not as tasty. Overall, working with the gumpaste reminded me of playing with Play Dough but, with prettier results. How many flowers can you make from 5-lbs? A lot! I had actually bought two of the 5-lb buckets anticipating it wouldn't go far but, I was wrong. Made probably 200 or so flowers/leaves from just one bucket. Never even had to open the second one and now I have extra for another project. I highly recommend this product. Have fun with it!:)

I use this gum paste all the time for my cake decorations. I find the thickness and texture to be much more comfortable to use than other leading brands'. The gum paste takes colors well without becoming too soft most of the time (red and black tend to be "looser" and need a bit of sitting time before shaping). The taste is what it is. Tastes kind of like marshmallows - it's sweet without a real flavor. Kids tend to love it, grown ups, not so much. It doesn't take an unreasonable amount of time to harden, and holds up well in warmer temperatures. Of course, humidity will wreck it, but any gum paste fails in humidity. I recommend this gum paste highly to anyone who asks, and use it exclusively.

I love sculpting cakes...and I had never worked with gumpaste and after some research found that Satin Ice was used by a lot of cake makers. The product came in a wrapped, resealable bucket that was easy to open and close. 2 pounds goes a long way for me as i'm not allways getting requests for hand made flowers unless it's wedding cakes so it is nice to have the storage container so the gumpaste doesn't dry out. Working with Satin Ice was very enjoyable...it's smooth, easy to work in my hand to soften and cuts/patterns great(you can see the details in my gumpaste butterflies and flowers in my photo). When using color I reccommend gel color and you can highlight it with luster dusts. The taste reminds me of a mild vanilla candy I've had before and my left over pieces get snatched up by my kids when they are looking for something sweet. I don't find the taste has any weird after taste and rolls onto floral wire well. I use cornstarch with my gumpaste as powderd suger makes it a bit more gummy/to sweet. It is a staple item in my cake making arsenal.

I bought this to try making flowers for the cake for my upcoming wedding. This came in well sealed. The gum past was firm but definitely pliable so it seemed fresh enough not to be horrible to try to work with. As a beginner I can say that I do struggle with working fast enough to thin edges, etc. without them having small cracks which is a mighty bummer. This, I believe, is user error and not a problem with the product. The things I have done have dried well. I would buy this product again.

I have never used gum paste or fondant before, but my son really wanted a LEGO cake this year, so I bought the 2 lb container along with gel dye to try and fashion minifigures. I used the LEGO popsicle mold as a starting base to create Ninjago figures for cake toppers. The gum paste was extremely easy to use - the heat from my hands made it pliable (I did not experience problems with dryness as did some reviewers). Even though the popsicle mold was rigid, I found that as long as I dusted it with corn starch, it was easy to remove the gum paste and the gum paste held detail very well. My son loved the figures, although he hated the taste - which was fine with me, as I didn't want him eating all of that sugar anyway! I thought the flavor was fine - like a gummy marshmallow.

I don’t bake. The whole baking thing just isn’t me and I avoid it unless absolutely necessary, like for example birthday cakes. I’d love to order a cake from the nearest bakery, but my children have somewhat off-the-wall preferences so I end up making my own since I don’t have the resources to buy custom. Long story short, ordered the gum paste for the first time after a baker friend mentioned it was easier to work with than fondant. My friend was right. I’m not artistic or detail oriented, but a 50-50 mix of gum paste and fondant was enough for three cakes (gotta love triplets) with a little left over when all was said and done. I found the mixture easier to shape than fondant and goodness, it dried fast so no parts would droop and/or squish. The cakes were a hit despite the imperfections (and defects caused by impatient fingers). Will use again for the next batch of birthdays.

This is definitely my favourite gumpaste to use, it's really good quality and grate to work with, Smells good too! Fab price, cheapest around with free pp!! Will be keeping my stock topped up via Amazon from now on.

Kann jedem empfehlen dieses Fondant zu kaufen! Ich habe viele verschiedene schon ausprobiert aber dieses lässt sich einfach am besten verarbeiten! Es ist nicht so hart, man kann es sehr gut einfärben und es ist eins was man auch mal mitessen kann! Ich finde Fondant immer extrem süß und eklig zu essen, daher esse ich es NIE mit! Dieses hier ist anders, es ist nicht so extrem im Geschmack.

Ist ein super tolles Produkt, lässt sich gut verarbeiten, riecht auch gut, man muss es nicht so viel durchkneten, sonst ist es zu weich und klebt auf dem Tisch, mit Stärke oder puderzucker ist alles wieder ok.

This Satin Ice Gum Paste is a good item to work with when practising your modelling as I am doing. I have used it 3 times on cakes now and it has gone down well!

Hier stimmt das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis sehr gut! Zumal das übrigen Fondant in der Plastikbox besser haltbar hält und es nicht so schnell austrocknet. Ich konnte diesen Fondant super nach 1 Monat der ersten Verwendung nutzen
