Wanted one like the one on our boat and this fits the bill perfectly. Size is perfect and easy to install

The size and format of this compass suits me perfectly for use on my underwater scuba dive, propulsion vehicle, the magnetic compensators were good enough to compensate for the strong magnetic fields of my scooter. Caveat: if you remove the two screws that mount a compass on its arms. You will find that the nuts on the inside will fall out, this may cause complete frustration as you will never be able to position the nuts back in place to put the screw back on, however… There is an easy fix, the compass will split apart in half, and you will be able to find the floating nuts. They go into a slot in the upper part of the compass and what you need to do is simply glue them in. Then pop the halves back together and voilà you can now put the screws back in.

Seemed like exactly what I wanted. Very much something minimal to stick on my boat. first off - I am a small boat mariner with roots that go back to Little Creek VA - a US Navy amphibious base. Now that we have cleared up what I know - on to why this is an absolute fail of a buy. The calibration feature is useless. Once calibrated to true north - as I rotated bearing to every other point, the compass pretty much lost it's true - and fell off by as much as 90-180 degrees "wherever it wanted". You would think I had a magnetic presence rotating in proximity - but there was NONE. Remove all my electronics, used a wooden board to platform off of - and took readings from several hundred feet apart on my 1 Acre parcel... NO AMOUNT OF CALIBRATION would return it to True or keep True. I was logging back in here to send it back - and then I realized I waited too long to return (or the manufacturer does not offer a return). Therefore - my only option is to warn all you consumers out there. Unless this was a defective unit - which I am about to turn over to the kids to play with - I am hoping anyone else who dares to purchase, has a better unit than I received. MANUFACTURER - I am not in the mood to hear your spiel on resolving my issue - contacting technical support - etc, etc. What I will do if you bother to downplay this review - is post a Video of my findings. (HINT - if I had an opportunity to return here on Amazon - I would not have bothered reviewing. Just putting that out there....)

Bought this for our Campervan conversion. It works a treat on the Dash with no interference from anything in the interior of our vehicle. It should've been around £99 but I couldn't justify that for the occasional use, so clicked on the 'New and used from...' option and picked one up with a damaged box for £25! Silva is a well known trusted brand in Compass/Navigation. Quality piece. Comes with wires which when connected to vehicles 12v illuminates the glass red. I changed the LED to blue to match my Dashboard.
